Kiltmakers Story: Helen's 100th Kilt

Helen, our in house kiltmaker, EKA tutor and famously if you’ve ever popped in “the Irish one”, recently reached a fantastic landmark moment in kiltmaking – her 100th kilt.

"I started my kiltmaking journey four years ago training with Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers at the Edinburgh Kiltmakers Academy. Since training to be a kiltmaker I have continuously made kilts for Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers, kiltmaking is a slow process so I started with one kilt a month and built up my speed. I now do two kilts a week, teach in the Edinburgh Kiltmakers Academy and help out in the sales shop sewing alterations and making accessories, a very full job but a very rewarding job :) After a busy summer of sewing I built up my speed and finally reached 100 kilts! My next target is of course to reach 200 I hope faster than getting to 100."

Helen’s enthusiasm for kiltmaking speaks for itself and she shares this passion once again this year with a new group of Edinburgh Kiltmakers Academy students.

Congratulations Helen, here’s to the next hundred kilts you will make!
