To mark the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden, a special commemorative tartan has been designed and produced by Gordon Nicolson of Nicolson Kilt Makers in Edinburgh. The design features colours which evoke the battle, and those who fought in it. There is the Tudor Green and White of the English Army and the Golden Yellow and Dark Red of the Scottish Army. The battle, which was fought on September 9 which saw 15,000 dead 10,000 scots and 5,000 English with King James IVth of Scotland among them. He was the last monarch to die in battle in these islands. The tartan commemorates all those who gave their lives.
