Meet The Makers: Kilberry Bagpipes

On 27 St Mary's Street, just off Edinburgh Royal's Mile, is Kilberry Bagpipes, the last artisanal workshop of its kind operating in Edinburgh today.

It's a small room. A room to work in and not for show. There is the sound of the wood turn lay in action, and an unusual smell in the air that only the initiated will recognise as African blackwood being worked.

We visited with photographer Julien Borghino. It was easy to get there - it's right next door to our Hire shop. We wanted to try and capture something of craftmanship in action. Not hard at Kilberry where the small team rarely seem to stop work, turning out lovingly handcrafted pipes, from drone cap to chanter - and even the occasional Kilberry Collection sgian dubh.
