Designed by Gordon Nicolson: The University of Edinburgh Tartan
Founded in 1582, it wasn’t until 2007 that the University of Edinburgh commissioned its very own tartan.
Gordon Nicolson was honoured to be given the opportunity to immortalise the work of its students, staff and alumni in traditional Scottish fashion. The University of Edinburgh tartan is a symbol of achievement and belonging - to a world-renowned institution and the city it calls home.
Here at Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers our constant focus is always centered around Scotland's cultural heritage and time-honoured traditional methods of craftsmanship using authentic materials. We partner with the historic House of Edgar who expertly weave this pure wool tartan in their Mill in Keith, Morayshire
The yarns woven into this striking design, meticulously represent the four main colours of the University of Edinburgh's iconic crested logo; blue, red, white and black. These very particular colours are instantly recognisable as those of Scotland's capital University and are carefully protected so they should never be imitated!
