Please allow up to 20 weeks for handmade kilts to be made.

GNK kilts are distinctive for the careful shaping that goes into every pleat to create an unrivalled fit.

Military Kilt

The Military Kilt is intended to sit slightly higher on the waist ( at the bottom of the rib cage) and can be worn at various kilt lengths, Traditionally they were worn above the knee for practical reasons,  but can be worn today at a dress length of mid knee at the preference of the wearer.
Unlike standard knife edge pleats which fold in the same direction, the Military Box Pleats or Barrel Pleats are created by folding an underlying knife pleat back on itself thus creating a narrow box pleat. This method of pleating was developed and used by military tailors to create stiffer, more structured pleats, resulting in a much more rigid profile as troops stood to attention.
The double layer folding method is an elevated and far more labour-intensive method of sewing, carefully carried out by our team of expertly qualified EKA graduates, who have undergone advanced skills training.
Constructed using a minimum of 8 yards of  17-18 oz military weight tartan. Available in a choice of 6 Military Tartans, this cloth is woven by House of Edgar, at their Keith mill, in the North East of Scotland.
Due to the specialised method of sewing involved, our Military Kilts are only available as a Handsewn Kilt.
