Hunting Nicolson Muted was born from a desire to honour tradition while daring to introduce something new. Designed by Gordon Nicolson, this tartan takes inspiration from our established clan pattern but reimagines it through a fresh lens - one shaped by personal connection, creativity, and colour.
Gordon wanted to create something unique for our Hire tartan collection - a look that stood apart from others while still carrying the unmistakable Nicolson identity. Inspired by his wife’s favourite colours, aquamarine and magenta, he set about weaving these bold tones into the framework of our family tartan, creating a palette that feels both personal and distinctive.
Woven using pure wool, the Hunting Nicolson Muted tartan embodies quality and longevity while supporting local craft and tradition. The result is a rich interplay of aquamarine blues, vibrant magentas, and muted greens, anchored by black and highlighted with the familiar touches of gold and white. It’s a design that feels strikingly modern yet reassuringly familiar - the kind of tartan that catches the eye while staying rooted in heritage.
