Strictly Come Dancing is back! Watch GNK on the Dance Floor

With Strictly’s new season kicking off this week, we’re looking back at our favourite GNK moments on the dance floor!

One of the most memorable Strictly moments has to be 2022’s winner, Hamza Yassin.

Hamza danced his way into the nation’s hearts while wearing the Bruce of Kinnaird kilt. His look was completed with a matching waistcoat, created from our tartan by the Strictly wardrobe team, while the kilt itself was crafted by our very own Rachel Bell - kiltmaker and tutor at the Edinburgh Kiltmakers Academy.

Rachel says "I had the fantastic opportunity to make the kilt worn by Hamza on Strictly. The Bruce of Kinnaird tartan was a really colourful and fun tartan to work with and helped improve my confidence in kiltmaking. I am very grateful to have had this opportunity!"

We love the vibrancy of this tartan, which perfectly reflects Hamza’s personality and the playful charm of the Charleston. With its mix of pinks, reds, greens, and blues, it was the perfect way to bring colour to the dance floor!

A little earlier, in 2020, we had the pleasure of making a kilt for JJ Chalmers - that year’s only Scotsman to grace the Strictly dancefloor. Made by EKA Graduate Emma Wilkison, his kilt was tailored from Cameron of Erracht Modern tartan woven by Lochcarron of Scotland, and styled with a handmade McRostie sporran.

As a special nod to JJ’s service as a Royal Marine and Invictus Games medallist, the kilt was pleated to the traditional military stripe. The excitement around JJ’s Strictly kilt even earned us features in The Scotsman and The Edinburgh Evening News!

And who could forget back in 2014, when Anton Du Beke waltzed Judy Murray through to the next round of Series 12 in our Murray of Elibank kilt. There may have been plenty of competition on the Strictly dancefloor, but our signature pleats certainly held their own!

As another Strictly season begins, we’d like to wish this year’s line-up the very best of luck - team GNK will be cheering you all on!
