It may come as a surprise to learn that not all tartans are woven using Scottish wool. Over recent decades, increasing global demand for larger quantities of cloth, higher yields, and softer handling led much of the textiles industry to source yarns from further afield.

Today, however, there is a growing demand for provenance, sustainability, and materials that truly stand the test of time. As we all become more mindful of our environmental impact, mills such as Lochcarron are leading a return to British and Scottish wool, investing in the development of these fibres while supporting local farmers and rural communities across Scotland.
